In addition to our monthly meetings, our club conducts regular events for members. Details of events are announced to members in the VCCSA Bulletin, and where possible through the Club Notes in the Adelaide Advertiser.
The club organises monthly road runs at which members can stretch the legs of their favourite veteran car or motorcycle. Typically these runs are held on the Sunday following the general meeting, and often take the form of a breakfast run in the Adelaide metropolitan area, or a longer day run to the local wine growing districts. Where possible we like to tie in to other events of veteran motoring interest, for example when we gathered to bid Bon voyage to the Dutton/Aunger Talbot when it made its third trip from Adelaide to Darwin in 2008.
In the winter time, when the weather is not so conducive to veteran motoring, we often indulge in saner pursuits. A recent example was a Vivian Lewis heritage walk around some of the city locations where the Lewis Cycle and Motor Works and Vivian Lewis Limited had premises in the period 1892 - 1924.
For the past four years, in early December, we have commemorated the pioneer hill climb events up Norton Summit in 1904-1906 by the Automobile Club of South Australia. The Norton Summit Hill Climb is becoming a signature event for the Club, and for the past couple of years we have proceeded past the summit to picnic at the lovely Mt. Lofty Botanic Gardens in the lovely Adelaide Hills. To sample the mood, see the report on the 2007 event.
We also hold an Annual Weekend Rally.
The date and venue for this years Annual Weekend Rally was
12-14 April 2013
Nuriootpa, Barossa Valley,
This was to be a non competitive event for pre-1919 motor cars, motor cycles and other vehicles, conducted by the Veteran Car Club of South Australia Inc. Please download a copy of the 2013 - VCCSA Annual Rally Entry Form.
For the past two years our Annual Rally has been a Weekend Rally at Nuriootpa.
A previous rally in Strathalbyn, during May 2010 was a great success with an entry list of thirty-two veteran cars and twelve veteran bikes and 102 people sitting down to the rally dinner on Saturday night. Particularly pleasing was the number of early cars and motorcycles at the event: not one but two vis-a-vis De Dions (from 1900 and 1901), a 1903 Wolesley, 1903 Humberette, 1904 Minerva motorcycle, 1905 Rover, 1906 Phoenix tri-car and so on. The 2011 event was, if it is possible, even more successful, with a total of 60 veteran cars and motorcycles entered and 122 people for dinner on Saturday night. Arguably the "stars" of the 2011 rally were two veteran steamers: a 1906 White and an 1907 Stanley; most of the cars participating can be seen in our photo galleries.
The Club celebrates its birthday each year, usually close to le quinze juilliet (Bastille Day), with the VCCSA Annual Dinner. Locations vary, with the 2008 dinner held at the Bradman Room, Adelaide Oval. For 2012, the Dinner was held at the Kooyonga Golf Club, on Saturday 7th July.
The date and venue for this years Annual Dinner is
