VCCSA Events In addition to our monthly meetings, our club conducts regular events for members. Details of events are announced to members in the VCCSA Bulletin, and where possible through the Club Notes in the Adelaide Advertiser. Monthly events The club organises monthly road runs at which members can stretch the legs of their favourite veteran car or motorcycle. Typically these runs are held on the Sunday following the general meeting, and often take the form of a breakfast run in the Adelaide metropolitan area, or a longer day run to the local wine growing districts. Where possible we like to tie in to other events of veteran motoring interest, for example when we gathered to bid Bon voyage to the Dutton/Aunger Talbot when it made its third trip from Adelaide to Darwin in 2008. In the winter time, when the weather is not so conducive to veteran motoring, we often indulge in saner pursuits. A recent example was a Vivian Lewis heritage walk around some of the city locations where the Lewis Cycle and Motor Works and Vivian Lewis Limited had premises in the period 1892 - 1924. Annual Events For the past four years, in early December, we have commemorated the pioneer hill climb events up Norton Summit in 1904-1906 by the Automobile Club of South Australia. The Norton Summit Hill Climb is becoming a signature event for the Club, and for the past couple of years we have proceeded past the summit to picnic at the lovely Mt. Lofty Botanic Gardens in the lovely Adelaide Hills. To sample the mood, see the report on the 2007 event. We have also held a number of two-day runs, and for 2010 our event will be "Dr Shone's Veteran Tonic", a Two-Day Rally at Strathalbyn in May 2010. Planning is well advanced - why not join us? The Club celebrates its birthday each year, usually close to le quinze juilliet (Bastille Day), with the VCCSA Annual Dinner. Locations vary, but the 2008 dinner was held at the Bradman Room, Adelaide Oval. |
