The Association of Veteran Car Clubs of Australia (AVCCA) is convening this year’s National Veteran Vehicle Rally in Clare SA from 24 to 30 September. The event is open to cars and motorcycles built before the end of 1918.
Annual national rallies which rotate between the States are organised to foster communication between owners and to promote an improved and wider knowledge, appreciation and understanding of veteran vehicles among members and the general public. This rally is a gathering of very old, rare and fragile vehicles which move at a sedate pace reflecting their age and value. It is not a race or a competition.
The Rally is being jointly organised by the Sporting Car Club of SA and the Veteran Car Club of SA. Organisers are expecting up to 150 veteran vehicles, and with their drivers, riders and passengers, up to 300 people to attend in total. The majority of these will be from interstate and some from overseas.
The Rally will be based in Clare where the entrants will be staying in the Caravan Park and Motels. Each morning we will gather at the Clare Oval (Rally Central) and will be travelling to various locations in the region, including Burra, Kadina, Snowtown, Bute, Auburn, Mintaro and Balaklava.
Sunday 24th – Entrants arrive at Clare during the day, register at the Clare Oval and check-in to their accommodation. A Mayoral reception afternoon tea will be given for the entrants and invited guests in the Clare Town Hall with display vehicles parked adjacent to the hall and on Main North Road from 2 pm until 5 pm.
Monday 25th – Morning briefing at the Oval then independent touring around Clare. At midday, entrants will gather at the Oval then drive to Bungaree Station for a private lunch and tour, returning to Clare in the afternoon from 3 pm.
Tuesday 26th – Morning briefing at Oval then travel to Snowtown via Blyth for morning tea at the Oval. The vehicles will be on display between about 9 am and 10.30am, then the Rally will divide, with some vehicles travelling on to Kadina for a lunch and tour of the Farm Shed Museum. The remaining entrants will be returning to Clare then going on to the Annie’s Lane winery for a private lunch. Vehicles will be returning to Clare during mid to late afternoon.
Wednesday 27th – Morning briefing at the Oval then the entrants travel to Balaklava via Blyth for a private display for students on the High School grounds and the entrant’s morning tea. Proceed to Martindale Hall via Auburn for a private lunch and tour. We return to Clare for a highlight of our Rally, the afternoon public display on the Oval from 4 pm, followed by the Lights Parade in Main North Road from 6.30 pm. This will be a very rare chance to see century-old vehicles with their gas and kerosene lights operating at night. The entrants will be in period dress.
Thursday 28th – Our regular morning briefing at the Oval then we drive to Anlaby Station via Manoora and Saddleworth for a private lunch and tours, returning mid-afternoon by the same route or via Auburn.
Friday 29th – Morning briefing at the Oval then a run to Burra via Farrell Flat for lunch and a self guided tour, returning via the same route in the early afternoon. In the evening there will be a farewell dinner for entrants in the Clare Town Hall.
Saturday 30th – A farewell breakfast will be served at the Clare showgrounds and the entrants will depart (but many of the vehicles will be loaded on trailers).
The opportunity to view such a large number of historically significant motor vehicles is a once in a lifetime experience for most people and the Rally promises to be a rewarding event for our entrants, visitors and locals alike. We are encouraging schools and the community at large to take the opportunity to inspect the vehicles during our rally. While some of our outings will be to private properties, during the week there are several locations where we will be gathering for public viewing. We encourage you to take the time to come along and see this wonderful collection.
Should you require further information, or wish to visit the event or would like to arrange something special then please do not hesitate to contact us at the National Veteran Vehicle Rally Clare 2017, PO Box 2, Glen Osmond SA 5064 or phone
